What we hold to
Our values seek to outwork the vision of ‘go, plant, build’, which expresses our desire to be planting vibrant and healthy churches throughout the surrounding region as part of a movement which brings heaven to earth!
We recognise that everything we are flows from God and our oneness with him. ‘Trinity is a witness that God reveals himself as personal and in personal relations, he is brought boldly into a community of men, women and children who are called to enter this communal life of love. Under the image of the trinity we discover that we do not know God by defining him but being loved by him and loving in return. This is living, not thinking about living; living with, not performing for' (Eugene Peterson)
We are motivated by the great commandment (Matt 22:37-40) & the great commission (Matt 28:18-20)
Jesus said: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”(Matthew 22:37-40)
Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
‘If your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here’ (Exodus 33:15-16)
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8)
“All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved” (Acts 2:38-47)
Jesus gave this charge: “God authorised and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18 The Message)
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples” (John 15)
‘Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper’ (Jeremiah 29:7)
Values and Partnerships
The core leadership of our church has certain beliefs, values and commitments. This is how we want to live together in our part of the family of God!
They describe us now – the result of walking together relationally for many years – and so they are also the foundation for the future. We have explored a 3-stage model, successively setting out our place in God’s wider church, within the evangelical charismatic family and our distinctive character locally.
As a local church, we are grateful to be a part of the wider body of Christ and to play our part in God’s bigger plans and purposes in the world today. This is expressed through a variety of relationships:
CCD is part of East Midlands Christian Fellowships (EMCF) which has a vision to ‘Go, Plant and Build’ new expressions of church in the East Midlands and beyond!
We have a growing number of active congregations and a desire to equip and build through training and apostolic development.
Each congregation is distinct in its identity and style, the way it does things and the people who are in it - yet as a growing group of churches we do lots of things together such as regular Celebration gatherings and Conferences.
CCD is part of a wider international family of churches and leaders called Salt and Light Ministries which has developed over the last 30 years around a common desire to see the Body of Christ grow to be all God wants it to be.
We believe in strong, loving and committed relationships within local churches and across the Body of Christ throughout the nations as we play our part in God's mission together.
